Bus Tour

Register now for the pre-conference bus tour taking place on Tuesday, 4 April 2023 - the day before Linkwest’s The Power of Community Conference (5 & 6 April).

This full day tour will be hosted by Sharon and Adrian from the Linkwest team and will take delegates on a visit to four Linkwest member Centres located in the Perth metropolitan area:

The bus tour will depart at 9am from conference headquarters (Mercure Perth on Irwin) and we will take a leisurely 45-minute scenic drive towards Roleystone Family Centre, which is set amongst beautiful marri and jarrah forests, along with orchards with vast ranges of stone fruits, citrus and avocados. The Centre has a very artistic community and source the majority of their tutors locally, to be able to empower everyone, and create ‘Community’. Deanna White, Manager at the Centre will welcome you with morning tea made from local produce by one of their amazing tutors, and you will be inspired by some of the skills taught in their community classes.

We then head off to William Langford Community House (WLCH) who have been in/with their community since 1986. WLCH Manager Maria Cavill, will welcome you with the Salad Bowl Community Choir singing Malay/Indonesian and Chinese folk songs and provide a delicious lunch, which will be cooked in their commercial kitchen. For entrée, you will be enjoying vegetarian curry puffs, followed by chicken biryani or eggplant kofta, and either a cold lychee with a dollop of ice cream or a kuih seri muka (a Malaysian sticky rice with green jelly on top) for dessert.

With a full tummy, we will be taking a short drive to meet with Emma Turner, the Manager at Armadale Community Family Centre. During this visit, we will recharge with 5 minutes of mindfulness, followed by a mini essential oil roller workshop in their new She Shed, where all participants will make their own blend to take home.

The final destination will be South Perth Learning Centre (SPLC), which opened in 1985, and Didi Mudigdo, Coordinator, will be providing everyone with afternoon tea and refreshments. SPLC is a suburban community learning centre in scenic South Perth, a suburb located on the banks of the Swan River. The Centre offers daytime classes in languages and arts/crafts, and they also run community social activities such as mahjong, board games, and current affairs discussion groups. Aside from managing these activities, SPLC also hires out rooms to external organisations.

We will return to the Mercure Perth on Irwin at 4.30pm. If you wish to pre-register for The Power of Community Linkwest Conference 2023, the Linkwest team will be situated near the Beccaria Bar, located on the ground floor of the hotel from 5.00pm until 7.00pm.
