The Strategic Planning Handbook
Strategic planning can sometimes feel like just another chore, another tick-box exercise that takes time and effort without having much practical value. Frequently, the whole strategic planning job gets delegated to the Centre's coordinator/manager, with the committee/board having little to no involvement. The process can often seem overwhelming.
It doesn't have to be like that. Strategic planning can, and should, be an exciting process. It is your opportunity to think big and to chart the success of your Centre. The process asks you to consider what, and whom, is important to your Centre, and lay down the principles that underpin everything you do and everything you are.
Our Strategic Planning Handbook has been developed with Neighbourhood and Community Resource Centres (Centres) in mind. While the tools provided, and the principles explored, will apply to any small incorporated not-for-profit, we have endeavoured to provide Centres with a practical, useful, and inspirational resource.
Our main goal is to get you excited about strategic planning. We hope to get across the incredible tool that is the strategic plan and the potential a well-planned strategy holds for your Centre.
This resource outlines a simple strategic planning process and detail the process steps. You can (and should) make this process your own. The goal is to develop a strategic plan that everyone can get behind, and the process is as important as the completed plan.
