Since 2019, the Cunderdin CRC, in collaboration with the Shire of Cunderdin, the Shire of Tammin and several senior community representatives, has been working together to support and deliver initiatives for seniors across Cunderdin, Meckering and Tammin.
What first began as a committee organising three larger senior events each year has grown into a much-loved program of bus trips that allow local seniors to explore parts of the region together. Over the years the group has visited a range of destinations including the Nungarin War Museum, Toodyay Camel Farm, the York Sock Factory, New Norcia, Ardath and Araluen to see the tulips, just to name a few.
These trips have always been well attended, with wonderful feedback from participants. For many seniors in our community who no longer drive, the trips provide a fantastic opportunity to visit neighbouring towns, experience local attractions and enjoy a day out with great company.
Keeping the day trips accessible has always been a priority, with the cost kept to just $20 per person. This fee covers morning tea, lunch and entry into the attractions. The committee is fortunate to receive support from local community groups as well as both Shires, helping make these outings possible.
In 2025 the program expanded even further with the introduction of the first overnight trip. A group of 25 seniors, along with three staff members, travelled to Kalgoorlie aboard the Prospector for a two-night stay. While the overnight trip was self-funded by the participants, the committee worked hard to help keep costs down and assist where possible.
The trip was packed with activities, including group dinners, visits to local museums, the Super Pit lookout, a Hannans North Tourist Mine tour, a game of two-up, time in the gardens and free time to explore the town.
It was a wonderful few days away and a trip that will be remembered by many. With such strong support from the community, the committee is now busy planning the next overnight getaway.
