On Thursday 27 May, the Hyden Community Resource Centre hosted a Cancer Council Biggest Afternoon Tea as part of the 2026 campaign, bringing the community together for a warm and enjoyable afternoon in support of a vital cause.
Cancer impacts many lives in our community, and this event provided an opportunity to acknowledge those experiences while raising funds for the Cancer Council's important work in research, prevention, and support services.
A highlight of the afternoon was the Great Hyden Bake Off: Scone Edition, which showcased a wonderful range of creative entries. From sweet to savoury flavours, the competition featured a variety of unique scones enjoyed by attendees.
After careful judging, the winning entry was selected from a strong field of bakers, with all participants contributing to the success of the event. A special mention is extended to the young baker who proudly took part in the competition.
Theafternoon tea was well attended, with community members enjoying conversation, shared food, and connection. A raffle featuring generously donated prizes from local businesses added to the atmosphere and was warmly supported on the day.
The event was a great success, raising $1,600 for the Cancer Council. This outcome reflects the generosity and support of the wider community, including all who attended, donated, volunteered, and helped promote the event.
