What began as a simple conversation about the rising cost of living has grown into something truly special — the Woodlupine Family Centre’s Community Lunch, a welcoming weekly gathering that has become a highlight for many in our community.
As rising prices make it harder for people to catch up with friends, it’s more important than ever to have a space where connections can happen without pressure — a place where everyone is welcome, and where meaningful conversations and community spirit take centre stage.
Each week, we share a meal and welcome a guest speaker to spark discussion and inspiration. We've hosted local politicians sharing their vision for the future, experts from cost-of-living support organisations, and speakers covering topics like health, mental wellbeing, and community interests that resonate with those who attend. It’s a place to learn, ask questions, and stay connected with what’s happening locally.
Thanks to the generous support of a Bendigo Bank Community Grant, this initiative has not only become possible — it’s thriving. Our partnership with Bendigo Bank and the local Hawaiian’s Shopping Centre is a cornerstone of this program. Together, we meet quarterly to explore new ways to support the community and strengthen local partnerships.
The Community Lunch has become much more than a weekly event — it’s a growing network of neighbours who are:
- Making new friends and reconnecting with familiar faces
- Sharing passions and stories in a safe, welcoming space
- Learning new skills and tips for independent living
- Accessing services and support they may not have known were available
- Feeling seen, heard, and part of something meaningful
People come for the conversation, the connections, the learning — or simply to enjoy a great lunch with great company.
Everyone’s welcome. Every week.
