Member Centre Spotlight:
Greenfields Family and Community Centre

In 2021, Allambee, an organisation dedicated to the health, healing, and well-being of our community, approached the Greenfields Family and Community Centre with a vision: to create a social group specifically for Indigenous women. The initiative aimed to foster a safe, self-driven space where women could engage in meaningful conversations, express their creativity, and access essential trauma support resources. The goal was to empower these women, help them heal, and nurture their sense of belonging within the broader community. Fast forward three years, and the program—now known as Kwobdak Mila (Beautiful Futures)—continues to thrive, proving its deep and lasting impact.

Greenfields Family and Community Centre asked the women if they would like to undertake a group project and create a piece of artwork, that represents their group and their connection with our Community Centre.  The women eagerly embraced this opportunity, working together each week to create a piece of artwork that reflected their shared experiences and aspirations. The project was worked on weekly and was presented to us by Charlelette Bennell, project leader in November.  The artwork received such admiration from many visitors to the Centre.

In addition to the artwork, the women expressed interest in further personal growth and self-expression through a makeup tutorial class. In response, Greenfields used funding from our Empowering Communities Program (Department of Communities) to offer a half-day beauty experience in December 2024, enriching the lives of the women in the group and fostering an opportunity for self-care and confidence-building.

This group has become a cornerstone of our community. The bonds formed between the women, as well as with our team at Greenfields FCC, have created a vibrant and supportive environment. These connections transcend simple participation—they represent healing, empowerment, and hope for the future. Through this initiative, we have witnessed the incredible resilience and strength of the women involved, and we are proud to support them as they continue their journey toward beautiful futures.
